You can hold off on the water pump if it was done in the last 60,000 miles, but if not, I would just do it anyways, trust me. Then, while you are in there, you figure you might as well replace the hoses, thermostat, thermostat housing, water pump, and coolant level sensor as it will likely fall apart upon removal and also start leaking. Now you CAN just replace the tank and gaskets, but I DO NOT recommend this (believe me, it never works out well). It is VERY common for the radiator to develop leaks between the expansion tank and the radiator, which results in having to replace the whole thing. You can buy new plugs at BMW dealerships for about $5. Sometimes that plug just needs to be tightened down a bit, yet be careful not to overtighten, as stripped radiator bleed plugs are very common. Unscrew it and check for any cracks in the plastic plug itself or if the o-ring is worn out. Often there is a very slight leak that can drip almost unoticeably, until you see drops on the ground. Once again thank you for the help! Take a close look at the bleeding plug next to the radiator expansion tank fill cap. So if there is an existing thread point me in the right direction. I tried search but it has not worked in days for me. Any ideas what it could be, I looked inside the engine bay and I can see a little underneath the expansion tank. By small I mean there is barely any coolant on the ground and a spot has only appeared three times over the past week. As the title says I believe there is a small leak underneath the radiator by the air filter.
